Leonardo Sonnoli was awarded a diploma from the High Institute of Industrial Arts of Urbino in 1962, and received his professional instruction and training at the Tassinari/Vetta Studio of Trieste. In 2002, along with Paolo Tassinari and Pierpaolo Vetta, he founded CODEsign. He is involved with the visual identity of private and public companies, the communication of cultural events, editorial design, signal systems and graphic exhibitions.
His posters are held in major international public collections (National Library of France in Paris, Museum of Decorative Arts in Zurich). His works have been presented in several exhibitions such as 4:3; 50 Years of Italian and German Design in Bonn; Leonardo Sonnoli , in the town of pesaro in Chaumont; 8 Graphic Designers in Ningbo (China); the 5th Colour+Leonardo Sonnoli, in Tehran. Moreover, he has published his works in the respective catalogues, international journals both in Italy and abroad, including the reviews Area; Black and White; La grafica in Italia; Red, Wine and Green; Leonardo Sonnoli. He was awarded silver medal by the Art Exhibition of Toyama (Japan), and received the “Mention of Honour” recognition at the XIX Premio Compasso d’oro/Adi, the Merit Award of the Art Directors Club of New York, the Special Prize at the First China International Poster Biennial and the Golden Bee Award in Moscow.
Sonnoli is a member of the AGI International Executive Committee, and a member of the AGI (2000). Now he is teaching at the Faculty of Design and Arts of the Iuav University of Venice, living and working between Rimini and Trieste.
